Check out the 42nd Japan Car of the Year nominees

The list of nominees for the 42nd 2021–2022 Japan Car of the Year is out.

The nominated vehicles, according to the Japanese organization, are passenger cars announced or launched between November 1, 2020 and October 31, 2021.

The top 10 cars will be selected as candidates for the final selection of the Japan Car of the Year by the first selection, which will be announced on November 5, 2021.

The list is made up of 29 cars, and we’re happy to see familiar nameplates.

Included are Toyota models such as the Corolla Cross and the Land Cruiser — both of which are locally available nameplates.

Another car loved by many Filipino enthusiasts, the Honda Civic, was nominated. The JDM-spec 11th-gen sedan is also vying to be this year’s Japan Car of the Year.

The current-gen Mitsubishi’s Outlander PHEV was also a nominee.

This year’s Japan Car of the Year nominees list also included a host of American and European brands. These include the Audi A3 series and the Audi Q5, the BMW 4 Series, the Chevrolet Corvette, as well as the C-Class and C-Class models from Mercedes-Benz.

A committee made up of 60 individuals will vote to decide which among the nominees will nab the coveted Japan Car of the Year award.
