Hyundai completes tests, quality checks of new Tucson

Hyundai Motor Company announced that the all-new Tucson is now fully ready for its market launch following an intensive development period in Hyundai testing centers, proving grounds and roads across the globe.

Receiving its final tweaks in the Czech Republic and Austria, the all-new Tucson has now completed the last steps of testing and quality assurance, and looks ready to meet the discerning taste of the European automotive market in which it will be primarily released.

As the latest iteration of the SUV nears its official release, Hyundai reports that it went through rigorous tests on the most demanding race track in the world, the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife. The 4th-gen SUV also underwent significant real-world testing on the public roads of Europe, from the coldest winter testing conditions in Sweden to trailer testing in the Alps and hot weather testing in the south of Spain.

“Hyundai is committed to producing vehicles of the highest quality,” said Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Marketing and Product at Hyundai Motor Europe. “This is also embodied in our industry-leading Five Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty package, which offers peace-of-mind for customers.”

During the tests, Hyundai pushed to the limits the Tucson’s four-wheel drive system, torque distribution, clutch controllability and torque build up at low speeds. Hyundai engineers also verified the overall body structure rigidity, opening all doors, tail gate and panorama roof with two wheels on the ground and two wheels lifted up.

Engineers also immersed the new Tucson into bodies of water to confim that features such as the underbody covers and wheel guards will hold properly after driving in water, doing so at various speeds. In addition, they examined whether the model can easily drive in water fords with a depth of 200 to 300mm.

Considering its humble beginnings, Hyundai as evolved leaps and bounds from those early days, and the company has consistently been recognized with awards reflecting this. In the 2020 U.S. Initial Quality Study, consumer bible J.D. Power ranked the third-generation Tucson the best compact SUV on the market.

“Thanks to the extensive testing of the all-new Tucson ahead of its market introduction, customers can feel confident that they are selecting a car that is one of the best for initial and long-term quality, Christoph Hofmann added.

Hyundai also discussed the new Tucson’s revolutionary design at length in a previous engagement.

In the new Tucson, the wing shape of the Tucson’s headlights and daytime running lights (DRLs) cohesively integrate into the armor-like grille, which would likely remind many of the Toyota Alphard shield. The DRLs actually look like they’re part of the grille when turned off, revealing their true nature only upon activation.

Aside from the new façade, the 2021 Tucson is also bigger and wider than the previous generation, Hyundai claims.

Inside, a sleek and serene-looking cabin welcomes the Tucson’s occupants, which boasts an “intuitively optimized” dual cockpit layout designed to deliver a high-tech user experience.

According to Hyundai, the new design flourishes are a progression of ‘Sensuous Sportiness,’ Hyundai’s current design philosophy, bringing an emotional punch to the Tucson’s innovative ‘Parametric Dynamics’ design theme.

“The mission of ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ is to elevate the emotional qualities of automotive design,” said SangYup Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center. “We want our customers to feel moved.”

“With the all-new Tucson, we are introducing its ultimate evolution and a definitive statement about Hyundai’s unstoppable forward momentum. Tucson’s advanced, experimental design is true to its pioneering spirit and raises the game in the industry’s most competitive segment,” Lee added.

All the testing conducted on the new Tucson tells us that aside from being contemporary and stylish, it will also be fun to drive, equipped with responsive engine and transmission choices, and paired with practical characteristics for everyday use, from towing to off-roading and beyond.

The new Tucson is slated for a September 15 release in Europe. As for its release in other markets, Hyundai still has to make its statement on the matter. The Hyundai Tucson SUV available locally remains to be the 2019 model.
