The Nissan Terra has passed the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) with flying colors as Nissan's midsize SUV offering for the ASEAN market achieved an overall score of 83.17 points, making it eligible to receive the highly-coveted 5-Star rating. For the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category, the Swift scored 44.70 points, with 'Good' protection to the driver and passenger's heads, necks, and upper legs in a frontal offset crash although the same test resulted in an 'Adequate' score on the side chest and lower legs, with the driver's chest earning a 'Marginal' score. For the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category, the Terra has 20.79 points while its Safety Assist Technologies (SATs) scored 17.69 points.
"(The) Nissan Terra is Nissan's eighth model that underwent ASEAN NCAP assessment," the organization said in a statement. "The Terra model is fitted with six airbags as standard for Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, and the Philippines. Whilst side and curtain airbags are available as option for the market in other countries. Seatbelt Reminder System for frontal occupants and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) are standard across variants. Nevertheless, ESC is offered as an option in Vietnam and the Philippines. In this model, Nissan is proud to equip its own safety technology called the Intelligent Rear View Mirror as an optional fitment. This is the same with Blind Spot Technology and Lane Departure Warning. Under this assessment, Nissan Terra achieved an overall score of 83.17 points and is awarded with 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating." "Congratulations to Nissan for producing another safer car," ASEAN NCAP Chairperson Dr. Siti Zaharah Ishak said in the same statement. "This is another positive impact that the NCAP initiative had made and we hope there will be continuous effort from all manufacturers to produce such cars for the ASEAN region with high crashworthiness performance and equip them with crash avoidance technologies that could save people's lives. It is also encouraging to see that in addition to the currently available life-saving technologies, Nissan also made the initiative to produce its own safety technology to prevent collision with other road users. It will definitely give a competitive edge to other manufacturers to offer similar safety features to the consumers."
