The finalists for the 2022 World Car of the Year (WCOTY) and for the six World Car Awards categories, have just been announced.

    The models comprising the Top 10 list are the Audi Q4 e-tron, Cupra Formentor, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Genesis G70, Honda Civic, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia EV6, Lexus NX, Toyota GR86, and Subaru BRZ.

    The winners will be revealed on April 13 at the New York International Auto Show.

    The aforementioned nameplates were shortlisted from the initial 28 contenders.

    Aside from that, the 2022 awards program will also debut the World Electric Vehicle of the Year award to “recognize, support and celebrate the global transition to electric-powered vehicles that is now underway and to acknowledge the efforts of automakers around the world in developing these climate-conscious vehicles.”

    Forming the top five list in the newly-formed category are the Audi e-tron GT, BMW iX, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Mercedes-Benz EQS.

    The 2022 World Urban Car will be selected from the models stated below:

    • Dacia Sandero
    • Opel Mokka
    • Renault Kiger
    • Toyota Yaris Cross
    • Volkswagen Taigun

    Meanwhile, the finalists for the 2022 World Luxury Car division are Audi Q5 Sportback, BMW iX, Genesis GV70, Mercedes-Benz EQS and the Volvo C40 Recharge.

    The winner for the 2022 World Performance Car will be picked from the following:

    All the cars competing in the five categories are qualified to join the World Car Design of the Year award but the panel made up of world design experts created a shortlist of recommendations for the jurors’ final vote.

    The chosen models for the jurors’ final vote are the Audi e-tron GT, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and the Mercedes-Benz EQS.

    The top three in the World Car Finals Powered by Brembo will be announced on March 15, while the winners will be declared on April 13 at the New York International Auto Show.
