Modified vehicle number coding to be implemented in Metro Manila

Vehicles along EDSA

The Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP or more commonly known as number coding scheme) will soon be implemented — but with modifications.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What time is the implementation of the newest modified traffic scheme?

The latest traffic coding scheme shall be applied Mondays to Fridays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on private cars while the truck ban shall be employed from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Which vehicles are exempted from the number coding scheme?

Vehicles that are exempted in the number coding are public utility vehicles (PUVs), transportation network vehicle services (TNVS), motorcycles, garbage trucks, fuel trucks, and motor vehicles carrying essential and perishable goods.
  • Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos said that the modified number coding scheme will be applied from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Friday — except holidays — and will cover private vehicles.

Abalos clarified that the newest traffic scheme — which was based on the approved resolution of the Metro Manila mayors — will take effect after the resolution has been published in the Official Gazette.

The traffic mitigation system will exempt public utility vehicles (PUVs), Transportation Network Vehicle Services (TNVS)motorcycles, garbage trucks, fuel trucks, and motor vehicles carrying essential and perishable goods.

The TNVS units, Abalos said, shall be wearing stickers to be easily identified while on the road, saying that the government agency is “in coordination with the TNVS on the implementation of rules and regulations regarding this concern.”

Moreover, the MMDA chair said that the modified truck ban will also be implemented.

    EDSA

“Based on the UVVRP motor vehicle plate endings, light trucks shall be prohibited to ply EDSA between Magallanes, Makati City and North Avenue, Quezon City, both northbound and southbound, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays, except holidays,” the agency noted.

Light trucks refer to motor vehicles, whether for commercial use or not, with a gross capacity weight of 4,500 kilograms or below or having six or more tires, with the payload area either enclosed or open.
