Japanese car brand Suzuki updated the Swift Dzire subcompact sedan for the Philippine market early in 2019, giving the car an all new look. It’s a big seller in India, its country of manufacture, and competes with the likes of the Toyota Vios, Honda City, and Hyundai Accent in the local market.
A mild refresh, the changes between the 2016 and 2019 Suzuki Swift Dzire go more than skin deep. We share with you the differences between the new and old Dzire subcompact sedan models inside and out.
The exterior of the current Dzire is marked improvement from the outgoing model, showing plenty of better aesthetic choices in comparison. Up front, it is fitted with a new hexagonal chrome grille, contemporary-looking multi-reflector headlights, a distinctive bumper, and fog lamps* (*GL+ variant only). Same as the old unit, the side of the vehicle is characterized by straight lines and it sits on a set of 15-inch alloy wheels.
That said, the rear portion of the 2019 Dzire also receives some slight modifications. The new Dzire rear appears deceptively wider, thanks to a longer chrome garnish and tweaked rear combination lamps, which are now LED.
Inside, the new Dzire features a straightforward design and black interior theme. Center console controls are grouped together smartly, with a better focus on aesthetics and ergonomics this time around, as compared to the old model shown below. The design is bound to be a welcome sight for individuals who prefer less interior clutter. The vehicle also features a D-shaped steering wheel, giving it some racing smarts. It also comes with a rear aircon vents, which comes in handy especially during summer time. Trunk space is listed as 378 liters, which is 73 liters more than its predecessor.
As a mild refresh, both the old and new Dzire share the same 1.2-liter gasoline engine that puts out 82hp and 113Nm of torque. In the old Dzire, the GA variant is connected to a five-speed manual transmission, while the GL is mated to a 5-speed automated manual transmission dubbed AGS.
The new Dzire adds a manual GL to the lineup, increasing the number of variants to three.
The new Dzire is designed with a light and impact absorbing body, courtesy of Suzuki’s Total Effective Control Technology (TECT), which absorbs impact and dispersse the collision energy across the frame for better protection of occupants during collision. The Dzire also comes with dual airbags, anti-lock brake system, and Isofix child seat, with rear parking sensors, immobilizer, and a security alarm added to the top variant.
The old Swift Dzire was available in two variants, the GA MT and GL AT, with the manual GA priced at PHP568,000 and the automatic-equipped GL retails for PHP718,000. Color options included Prime Alp Blue, Prime Artic White, Metallic Silky Silver, Metallic Magma Gray, and Pearl Sangria Red.
The new 2019 Dzire is available in three variants with a starting price of PHP549,900 for the 1.2L GA MT variant. On the other hand, the top 1.2L GL+ Auto Gear Shift (AGS) variant is priced at PHP698,000. With Made even more affordable, it’s easy to say that the Dzire is competitively priced.
