BUYER'S GUIDE: 2019 MG 6

Ever since MG was launched in the Philippines last October, it’s been unveiling some pretty solid releases one after the other. It's latest offering, the MG 6, was launched at this year's MIAS. Easy on the eyes, the exterior of the fastback sedan is instantly impressive, and the rest of the features more so. Let’s visit the MG 6 with this Carmudi Buyer's Guide.

Specification

Imbued with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine that produces 167 hp and 250 Nm, the front-wheel-drive 2019 MG 6 is available in two trims--the Alpha and the Trophy. A seven-speed twin-clutch sportronic transmission with manual Tiptronic function ensures the engine’s power is harnessed as efficiently as possible via the car's chic, two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels. The front suspension uses McPherson struts, while the rear is equipped with a blade-type multi-link system. Front and rear brakes employ the disc-type variety.

Exterior

One glance at the 2019 MG 6 and it immediately comes across as a smart-looking car that impresses without drawing too much attention to its curves. The front has hints of Mazda, while the sides seem Mercedes-Benz-inspired. Although MG plays it safe with the car's overall exterior design, the total package incites excitement nonetheless. The Alpha comes with halogen projector headlamps, while the Trophy has LED projector types. Both have a sunroof with anti-trap with sunroof shade. Likewise, the rear combination lamps on both cars are LED. The Trophy trim comes with its own badging.

Interior

Those who are disappointed with the simplicity of the exterior will find that MG takes plenty of design risks in the cabin, which pays off handsomely. For starters, the vivid two-tone black and red trim is well-put-together. Drivers can view stats in real-time on a seven-inch virtual instrument cluster. Infotainment comes by way of an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay. The steering wheel’s flat bottom serves as a nod to the British marque’s rich racing heritage, with added multi-functional controls to keep up with the times. Driver seats are powered and six-way adjustable, while the one in the Trophy trim comes with added lumbar support. Side mirrors are powered on the Trophy and manual on the Alpha.

Space

Dimensions-wise, the MG 6 measures 4,695mm long, 1,848mm wide, and 1,462mm tall. The fact that it's a front-wheel-drive means more interior space, especially for rear passengers. The car's wheelbase measures 2,750mm.

Safety

The MG 6's sheet metal panels are built around a highly-rigid safety cage that ensures vehicle occupants are adequately protected in case of a collision. Safety features are plenty, with both passive and active safety systems installed. These include reversing camera, rear parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring system, engine immobilizer, electronic parking brake, and auto hold function. There's also a bevy of driver assist systems including cornering brake control, traction control, hill-hold control, and vehicle dynamic control.

Our Verdict

Indeed there's plenty to love in the 2019 MG 6 fastback sedan, not least of which is the price. The MG 6 Alpha costs PHP1,068,888, while the MG 6 Trophy costs PHP1,188,888. If you're in the market for a sport luxury car, the MG 6 is certainly worth the look.
