Cranking up its looks and performance to 11, the Aston Martin DB11 continues to raise the bar when it comes to packing all the style and power possible into one car. With the V12 version released February last year, a V8 convertible coupe unveiled in October a few months later, and an accompanying V8 variant launched locally just this March, the DB11 is certainly poised to make a splash in the local luxury sports car market.
A massive 4.0-liter twin-turbo, 503 hp and 672 Nm performer comes standard on both V8 variants, while the V12-equipped DB11 possesses an even bigger 5.2-liter twin-turbo engine that delivers 630 hp and 700 Nm. A lightweight body, torque-vectoring system, rear mid-mounted eight-speed automatic transmission, and sport-stiff chassis—all these features combined push the V12 DB11 to go from 0-100 kph in 3.9 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 322 kph.
The two-door body style and 2+2 seating is encased in an extruded bonded aluminum body structure including Hot Form Quenched (HFQ) aluminum and all-aluminum door structures. Meanwhile, a deployable spoiler with Aston Martin Aeroblade system and 'curlicue' feature in front wing that releases high-pressure air from inside the wheel helps this sports car achieve superior aerodynamics. There are LED lights all around the exterior, and buyers get to choose from Aston Martin's barrage of color and trim options to truly customize their ride.
Aston Martin cars are known for their guttural growl that validates their power, and the DB11 is more of the same, though definitely not in a bad way. Even with substantial insulation, that trademark sound is not only heard by the car's occupants, but felt as well. Three driving modes change the voice of the engine as well as the aggressiveness of the throttle and responsiveness of the transmission. A full-color 12-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster--developed in partnership with Daimler AG--is paired with a center-mounted eight-inch TFT screen that serves infotainment function. The satellite navigation (SATNAV) feature can be controlled by a rotary dial, while an optional touchpad adds multi-touch, gesture support, and character recognition for better user-friendliness. Standard interior features include a 400-watt Aston Martin Audio system, digital radio tuner, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, Wi-Fi hub, dual-zone air conditioning, Strathmore leather monotone upholstery, Alcantara headlining, power adjustable and heated front seats with memory settings, black leather steering wheel, and power adjustable steering column.
Like any luxury car, the Aston Martin DB11 doesn't have any crash test data, but buyers can expect the car to be exceptionally safe. Standard safety equipment include dual front airbags, side airbags, front knee airbags, curtain airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), brake assist, tire pressure monitoring alarm engine immobilizer remote central locking with proximity, cruise control with speed limiter, stability control, and traction control.
As mentioned, the DB11 has a 2+2 layout, and as can be expected from a coupe-style car, the front seats are more spacious than the rear. Then again, the luggage space is so sizeable that even with the spoiler tucked in, it still lets owners store enough personal stuff for a week-long trip out of town.
Even though fuel economy isn't a primary consideration for Aston Martin’s buyers, the latest DB11 nevertheless scores better in the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions department when compared to the marque' previous V12 engine.
