Car Comparison: Ford Everest vs Nissan Terra

The local SUV segment has become extremely competitive in the past few years. Many Filipino car buyers are now confident in exploring the price-conscious end of the SUV market as more and more manufacturers introduce cost-effective vehicles in this segment. But how much are you willing to sacrifice for affordability? Today, we’re pitting two SUVs to see which one of them offers the best bang for your buck. On one hand, we have a sport utility vehicle brimming with features with a price tag to match; and on other, we have an SUV that offers a more practical asking price with relatively scanty amenities. With that said, let’s look into the base variants of the Ford Everest and the Nissan Terra to find out which one of these SUVs make for a better option. From a distance, both vehicles look like they mean business. While the 2.0L Turbo Titanium 4x2 AT Ford Everest sports a beefier body that gives it a more dominating road presence, the 2.5L 4x2 EL AT Nissan Terra shows that it’s one to keep up with a comparatively aggressive breadth. Here’s how their numbers stack up as they stand toe-to-toe. Dimensions Even at its base trim level, the Ford Everest looms over the Nissan Terra with its modestly significant height advantage and slightly longer frame. This translates to better head room and better cargo space to haul in more than the average payload of groceries and goods. However, the Nissan Terra boasts a wider body that makes for a roomier cabin area giving its passengers quite the ample space to move in. Both SUV’s wheelbase and ground clearance are at a tie giving them the same advantage when sailing through road bumps and when breezing through potholes. The Everest isn’t exactly salt as the Terra is pepper, their differences in their dimensions aren’t as striking as what they offer in terms of safety and technology – but we’ll get to that later. Exterior The Nissan Terra is embellished with LED headlamps with styled finisher plus the staple automatic on and off and follow-me-home functionalities. You'll find your fair share of chrome accents with the Nissan Terra’s base trim level. Its front bumper is patterned to the color of the vehicle garnished with chrome trims, the front foglamps have chrome accent finishers, the outside door handles have chrome finishes, and the rear plate garnish is also in chrome. Its higher trim levels come with daytime running headlights, intelligent key switches, and a rear spoiler. The exterior of the Ford Everest is a different story. Chrome isn’t its priority, to say the least. While its grille, door handles, and side mirrors are bedizened in chrome, it’s exterior instead focuses on purpose-built features like puddle lamps, a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, roof rails, automatic on and off headlamps, HID headlamps with auto leveling and LED daytime running headlights, LED tail lights, and power adjustable and foldable side mirrors equipped with turn signal indicators. To say that the base trim level of the Ford Everest is packed to the brim is an understatement. The only difference of the base variant from the higher trim level is a panoramic moonroof. Interior The Nissan Terra’s base variant is outfitted with black-knit type fabric seat covers and its steering wheels are made of urethane materials. You'll find four cup and bottle holders and a full suite of accessory sockets making sure that the driver and its passengers will have connectivity within reach. Its infotainment system offers a 2-DIN 6.75-inch Touchscreen Display Audio outfitted with Phonelink, Bluetooth, USB, iPod, Aux, and Tuner functionalities. You might have to use your phone for navigation as Terra’s base model does not come with built-in navigation systems. On the other hand, the Ford Everest a slew of interior amenities like one-touch power windows, keyless entry and push button starting, auto dimming rear view mirrors, LED scuff plates, its fair share of accessory sockets, as well as premium features like dual zone automatic climate control and active noise cancellation. Ford Everest offers an 8-inch multi-touch screen with Radio, CD, MP3, and 3 USB Ports. It's also equipped with Ford’s Sync 3 Voice Control, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi Connectivity. Oh, it’s also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ready with a built-in navigation system you simply can’t beat. Engine For its price, the base model of the Nissan Terra offers a powerful diesel engine gaining the upper hand over the Ford Everest with better output and better torque. Safety Arguably one of its strongest suits, the Ford Everest shows that you get what you pay for by bestowing the Everest with some of the best safety features in the industry. These include cruise control, blind spot information system assist with cross traffic alert, electronic stability control, ESC, ABS, traction control, and a rollover mitigation and brake assist. You'll also find a slew of useful tech in Ford Everest’s base variant like a reverse and front parking sensor, front and rearview cameras, an immobilizer, and a burglar alarm system just in case you leave valuables behind. On the other hand, the Nissan Terra offers a paltry loadout of safety features including ABS, EBD, and brake assist, as well as its 4-eye rear parking sensors, an immobilizer, and a VSS alarm. Price Here’s how much taking home a 2020 Ford Everest will cost you as compared to the how much the variants or the Nissan Terra are priced. Conclusion When driving on the road, safety is of utmost importance. At the end of the day, the amount of money you pay for to get the premium safety features that let you get home to your family safe is money well spent. The Ford Everest shows you that every Peso you spend on it is an investment you make to keep you and your family safe.
