Dongfeng for sale in the Philippines
Dongfeng Motors (DFM) is a state-owned Chinese automotive manufacturer and is one of China’s top four auto companies together with FAW Group, SAIC Motor and Chang'an Motors. The company primarily produces commercial and consumer vehicles.
What separates DFM from other Chinese manufacturers is its numerous joint ventures with foreign automakers which allows them to market foreign-branded products in China. Some of the brands they have worked with are Honda, Nissan, Kia, Renault and Peugeot.
DFM started out as the Second Automobile Works in 1969. It changed its name in 1992 to Dongfeng which means “East Wind” in Chinese. The company started out as a commercial vehicle builder with 73 percent of its production being used for commercial purposes until 2001.
This trend slowly shifted to DFM producing more passenger vehicles. By 2012, the figures had been reversed with Dongfeng releasing more passenger units than commercial vehicles.
By the dawn of the millennium, DFM began ventures with major Japanese industry players such as Honda and Nissan in 2003. Earlier, in 2002, it also partnered with South Korean car manufacturer Kia.
In January 2013, the Chinese automaker partnered with the Swedish car producer Volvo to form a venture called Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles . The new company is focused on producing Chinese-based heavy-duty and medium trucks. Volvo is known for installing top of the range security features on their vehicles, which may also be integrated into the upcoming DFM models.
In 2013, the company launched the “Advancement with Pride” slogan. This year, Dongfeng also announced its aggressive plan for major dealerships to gain traction in the country where demands for commercial vehicles have risen due to increasing infrastructure projects.
While most of the previous units sold by DFM were acquired through joint ventures, the company also has its own-branded vehicles under the Fengshen brand such as the sedan Fengshen S30 and a hatchback Fengshen H30.
On its entry into the Philippines, Dongfeng released its own fleet of passenger vehicles that included the SUVs Dong Feng Succe and Dong Feng Oting, the pickup Dong Feng Rich and sedan Dong Feng A60. Like most Chinese cars, these units have lower price tags than their more popular competitors.
China Dong Feng Motor Distributors Philippines, Inc. is the local distributor of Dongfeng products.
