Cars in NCR

Suzuki Celerio

The Philippines’ capital, Metro Manila or the National Capital Region, is a bustling metropolitan area with almost 12 million residents in its 638 km² area. The streets of NCR host a variety of new and used vehicles, consisting mainly of public transport and privately owned vehicles.

Some 2.3 million vehicles are driven on the streets of NCR on a daily basis, according to a 2012 report by the Metro Manila Development Authority.

Traffic in metro Manila

Metro Manila has one of the busiest rush hours in Asia brought on by traffic congestion that can turn from bad to worse in minutes. An ongoing project to connect the north and south express highways flanking the metropolis has worsened the situation. The project requires installation of road infrastructures along the capital’s main roads and is expected to finish in 2016.

A study by the country’s top university in 2013 revealed that the country loses P140 billion each year because of traffic jams. Buses, jeeps, and taxis remain the preferred transport of commuters. The metro’s train system- LRT 1, LRT 2, MRT and PNR are also popular alternatives.

Popular cars in metro Manila

In Metro Manila the number of commercial vehicles outnumber that of privately owned vehicles. Multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) and sedans-turned-taxis are the most frequently seen vehicles in Metro Manila.

Toyota Hiace

The Toyota HiAce, a people carrier vehicle, remains the prefered model of the UV Express taxi franchise. Meanwhile, the Toyota Vios and Hyundai Accent account for most of the compact taxi models in the Metro Manila area.

What Filipinos look for in a Car

As a nation of practical people, Filipinos consider fuel efficiency to be one of the most important factors when buying a car. The price of oil in the Philippines has seen a steady increase for years, even decades, much like the rest of the world. Using fuel efficient cars is one of the cost cutting measures employed by many Filipino families.

Among the most fuel efficient cars available in the Philippine market are; the Suzuki Celerio 1.0 MT- 34.34 Km/L; Suzuki Alto 0.8  MT- 34 Km/L; Honda Jazz 1.5- 27.58 Km/L; Lexus CT 200h- 24.4 Km/L; and the Toyota Prius- 24.23 Km/L. Other qualities that Filipinos look for in a car are the reliability of the brand and model, the price, and the overall durability.
