The Suzuki Wagon R is a Japanese kei (small) car designated as a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) with a wagon body. The “R” in this car’s name stands for “recreation”. This car is designed to be unusually tall. Its short bonnet and almost vertical hatchback can really maximize the cabin space. This unique styling was warmly received in Japan where it has been the bestselling kei car for the past decade.

Do not be fooled by its size; it has a class-leading interior space in the kei van segment. The Wagon excels in its segment when it comes to legroom and boot space. Its reclinable seats also offer comfortable seating positions and more space at the back when needed. Another key feature of this car is its competitive fuel efficiency rating. Indeed, small families looking for a cheap passenger vehicle that also comes with a comfortable cabin, outstanding fuel efficiency, affordable price, and easy-to-park-features will surely love fall in love with this car.

Suzuki first produced the Wagon in 1993 and expanded to its fifth generation from 2012 until today. The fifth and most current generation Wagon R was launched in Japan on 2012 and for the first time, featured a new mild-hybrid system that's called "Ene-Charge" (short for the word "energy charge") that's designed to provide regenerative braking to the combustion engine while the car runs at a certain electrical equipment. Another great feature that Suzuki has added in its latest model is the "Eco-Cool", an energy-saving electric air conditioner.

A new Suzuki Wagon R (VXL) has been launched by the Pak Suzuki in Pakistan in 2015. This K-series has minimal changes to the design, and it delivers the best fuel economy as of this date. This model, however, is not available in the Philippines, and like all Suzuki Wagon Rs, will have to be imported from Pakistan (or another country) to be driven around the Metro. In the Philippines, the Suzuki Wagon R competes locally with the Hyundai Eon, the Kia Picanto and the Mitsubishi Mirage.

Suzuki Wagon Review in the Philippines

Suzuki Wagon Specs and Performance

The Suzuki Wagon has a body-on-frame construction mated with a MacPherson strut with coil spring front suspension and an isolated trailing link with coil spring in its rear. Under its bonnet, the Suzuki Wagon has four powerplant options according to displacement: a 0.6 liter, 1.0 liter, 1.2 liter and 1.3 liter. These stem from either the naturally aspirated R06A gasoline engine (larger variants) or the 3-cylinder kei car diesel engine (smaller variants). When driven on the highway, this kei car can accelerate from 0-100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 16 seconds and can hit a maximum speed of 155 kph.

Suzuki Wagon Interior

The Suzuki Wagon R’s interiors are elegant yet very understated. There isn’t a lot going on here except the essentials, so don’t expect to be dazzled by ultra-high-tech gadgets that a lot of people don’t’ often use anyway.
