Multipurpose vehicles (MPVs)
A multipurpose vehicle is a type of van designed both for personal and commercial use. They commonly have a one box or two box segmentation which allows maximum volume for its interior cabin. MPVs are also called people-carriers or people-movers, especially if they are used for transporting paid passengers.
Because of their versatile design, MPVs can be used for a variety of purposes. The popular Toyota Avanza and Chevrolet Spin MPVs, for example, can transport five to seven people. They also have a larger cargo space which can be used for baggage or other items.
Uses of MPVs in the country
These types of vehicle, especially those that only have a one row passenger cabin and an extended flat load area, are used in the country to transport different types of agricultural and commercial products. Small vegetable farms in the Philippines usually employ MPVs to transport their products to nearby markets.
On average, a second hand or used MPV costs around P150,000 to P300,00 for units that are five to ten years old. In contrast, a brand new entry level unit like the Mitsubishi L300 FB has a price tag of P575,000.
